radon testingOne Facebook post is going viral as a way to show people that smoking isn’t the only way to develop lung cancer.

Vicky Veness, a personal trainer in the U.K., has recently posted a selfie on Facebook announcing her lung cancer diagnosis. Considering that people around the world tend to associate lung cancer only with smoking, Veness, who has never smoked, has taken it upon herself to educate the world that anyone is susceptible to this deadly disease.

Veness is only 30-years-old and has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She has always lived a typical healthy life by staying active and eating healthy, but her body still developed cancer. Underneath a picture of her smiling face, she goes on to explain that despite what some may think, when you have cancer you may not look ill on the outside. She explains that she suffered from a severe cough for 18 months that was only brushed off by many general practitioners, and she urges that it is crucial if anyone is unhappy with their doctor’s prognosis, to go back and get answers until they’re satisfied.

Above everything else, Veness is trying to show that there are plenty of factors besides smoking and smoke inhalation that can cause lung cancer. In fact, according to the American Cancer Society, up to 20% of people who die from lung cancer in the United States every year do not smoke or use any other kind of tobacco.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Surgeon General’s Office actually have estimated that about 20,000 lung cancer deaths are caused each year by radon. This means that radon exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the nation, which makes it that much more important to invest in radon testing and radon mitigation in their home.

Radon is especially harmful because it is odorless and tasteless. Testing for radon can be easily done by calling a local radon mitigation company, and within minutes you’ll know if your family is at risk or not.

Don’t risk the health of your loved ones by investing in regular radon testing today. You’ll breathe easier in no time, we promise.
